Egg Hunt Overload

Saturday morning we got up bright and early (it seems like I say that alot... no wonder I am always tired!) against my will and the kids', and headed to the church about 8 am. It was our ward's annual Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast, so I got to be there to set up and help run it, since I am part of Primary. Whoo-hoo!

We set up lots of tables and chairs, some games, many griddles, etc. By 8:30 good old Brother Smith and his class of 10-11 year old boys came to mix up the batter and make the pancakes. They were great! I was so glad that we didn't have to do that.

EASTER EGG HUNT #1

After everyone had their fill of pancakes, we all headed out to the lawn where the 87 DOZEN eggs had been hidden or at least laid on the grass, waiting to be discovered. I couldn't believe how many there were. We have 112 kids in our Primary, so we planned one dozen/child and estimated about 85 might come.

I'm not sure how many were there but they all got lots of eggs and were very happy. I loved that we spread them out over the whole property so it didn't seem like a madhouse of candy-crazed kids running all over and trampling each other. I hate that about egg hunts! I always warn my kids not to act like that. It's just candy.



Anyway, once all that was done the party fizzled out quickly. We got to cleaning up when our PP (Primary Pres to you lay folk) asked if I was going to the city egg hunt. I said I'd thought about it. We made a deal - I took her kids and mine to the hunt while she stayed to clean with the others. Not bad. I took it.

EASTER EGG HUNT #2



Little did I know what the city hunt would be like! It was mayhem. Madness. Crazy. Sooooo many people, I couldn't believe it. They had a few age groups sectioned off, 0-2, 3-5 year olds, 6-9, etc. All the kids I had except Ashley belonged in 6-9 so I set them up then took Ashley to her area- a few feet away. Once the fire engine sounded everyone went crazy. I walked with Ashley and tried to help her pick up a few eggs when a city employee began screaming for all parents to get off the field and go to the 'sideline'. My goodness- it was a zoo- like I was going to send my 3 year old in alone. Ashley definitely wouldn't go, but I couldn't believe she was being so ballistic. I just shrugged and said, "Well you got 3 eggs, let's go!"

The bigger kids fared much better. They got quite a few eggs thanks to my mom who strategically counseled them to head right for the middle once the engine sounded. Everyone on the edges missed out while they cleaned up. Ha! There you go city employees! We headed back to the church once we were done. It was cold and windy and I couldn't wait to get out of there. Back at the church pretty much everything was done so I got a good end of that deal.

EASTER EGG HUNT #3



That afternoon all the family came over around 3 pm to have a hunt and some delicious Easter dinner. Mom made a big turkey, stuffing, rolls, etc. Jared did the potatoes, Lori salad, Jill asparagus, Amy chocolate sheet cake... it was quite a feast. We weren't sure what to do about the hunt b/c it was raining by then, but we settled for an inside hunt. The kids couldn't wait- I'm surprised mine even cared at this point... but we lined them up at the bottom of the stairs then let 'em loose!



Ashley took more time to look in the small spaces and down low, so she found some eggs that the big kids, who were frantically running to and fro, missed in their haste.

After they all had about 1-2 dozen eggs, we called it quits. We had another big bag of eggs filled with candy and ready to go, but there were so many and we ran out of hiding places... so maybe we'll keep it until next year. Eww, just kidding. Don't know what we'll do with it.

It was a fun day for the kids, that's for sure. They love their cousins and they played all day- eating candy- playing- eating candy- playing... ah, what a life.
