Good Mail lives on

I was greeted by two items of Good Mail this week:

A nice note from Kim Sue was a great surprise! I have to admit I haven't been sending any Good Mail myself lately, so I felt pretty lucky to get some. Thank you so much for your kind note Kim Sue! I need to pay it forward and start sending some mail- being busy is not an excuse. It only takes a minute, right?

The other item of Good Mail was my confirmation letter from Top of Utah Marathon! Yes, that's right. I actually did it. I registered. September 20th is the big day. I put it off as long as I could (can you say scared to death?!) but Kami and Heather were both already registered and have been giving me a hard time about it. They thought I might chicken out! I wouldn't have... but I had to kind of talk myself into it and convince myself before I could do it. Reminds me of when I sent in my mission papers (the volunteer forms to be a missionary for my church). I had to wait until I could mentally handle the possibility of going to North Dakota or Idaho before I actually sent them in. I know that is a terrible attitude, but it's true. Thank goodness I was sent to Bangkok and didn't have to find out what it was like to live in the land of beef and potatoes!

Completely unrelated to Good Mail... I got to go on a date with Olivia the other night. Finally, my turn! Jared has taken both kids out on some fun dates, going out to dinner, to Home Depot, to SLC Real soccer games, etc. I kept saying, "When is it my turn?" I need to score some fun points too. So Olivia and I went out to McD's (her choice, obviously, despite all my efforts) and then went to the video store and rented "Daddy Day Camp" (avoid this movie at all costs!) and got yogurts at Hogi Yogi. She had a lot of fun and told me it was great. There was little planning involved, so maybe next time it will be more exciting. Definitely on the food side, that is. Anyway, we had a good time and I was glad to have an evening with my girl all to myself. She really needs this QT and I want to be a good mom and give it to her.

Thanks for the info on the hydration belt! I need to check that one out. It looks comfy and I like the way the water is evenly distributed around the belt. Andy and I had one "el cheapo" brand that just had the holder for one water bottle on the back. It was the most annoying thing! We wore just the belt (minus the water) at the Philly Marathon to put our protein bars in and we ended up chucking it at mile 13. It was sooooo annoying!
Congrats on registering for the Top of Utah! I had a friend who ran that and she loved it. You are going to do great. =D
(I had to laugh about the story about your mission papers. I was the same way. I waited to turn them in until I knew it would be OK if I got called to Pocatello or something like that.)

thanks for your sweet comments - I try and send a couple of notes a week. Sometimes that is possible and others it isn't. hope it made you smile :) I love dates with mommy. Sometimes I try to have it all planned out and then others I let her make choices which means sometimes we end up at places like McD's too!

I am cracking up about your date with Olivia. How many times do we, as moms, subject ourselves to McD's and horrible movies for the sake of our kids? Very cute.

Congrats on the marathon, is this your first? I ran my first last year and was completely bitten by the marathon bug. Now I hope to run one every year for the rest of my life (I'm training for the Marine Corp marathon this year). Best of luck with your training!
