Worst Day

What should have been a wonderful day turned out to be so crappy. I planned for the kids and I to go to the beach with a friend and her daughter. The weather was gorgeous. I mean, this is what the Gold Coast is all about. It was picturesque. We took the bikes down and we walked while they rode. I pushed Ashley in the stroller. My friend Prue and I chatted. Should have been perfect. But no. The kids whined. They fought. Austin argued with her 5 year old daughter. Seriously. Austin. He never fights! Apparently she called him a "troublemaker" and it hurt his feelings so he called her names back and the two of them were hissing at each other until they finally had a crash on the path and we intervened. Then Olivia didn't want to ride. She wanted to stop at the swings along the way. I had to threaten her with timeout when we got home just to keep her going. UGH. Then Ashley cried b/c the sun was in her face but she wouldnt wear the hat I brought. Finally we walked back to the cars, put the bikes away, and went down to the beach. My kids normally love the beach- exploring, sand, water, good times. Well that wasn't even good enough. Austin wanted to leave. "Can we go get an ice cream now?" I was trying to talk to my friend who is a good friend that I can talk to about everything. I felt like we couldn't even chat b/c of all the chaos. Ashley was EVERYWHERE. She was covered in sand, which is fine, but she kept climbing all over the towel like a Sand Monster, trying to get into the food I had packed, over my camera bag (gasp), getting sand all over the place. Then of course, she had a poopy diaper. By the time we left I was so frustrated.

We came back to my house and gave the girls a bath and let them play. I thought they would calm down and be good but then Olivia was bullying her daughter telling her she couldn't play with certain things and even told her she couldn't take her picture that she had colored home with her. Whose kids are these?! I was so embarassed! The good part was Prue and I had a great conversation about food and diets, health, etc. She is going to the Australian College of Natural Medicine to become a naturopath. I love that she and I have this connection. We were looking through cookbooks, etc. but Austin wouldn't leave us alone. He obviously just wanted my attention and made me come and make his toast, come play soccer, etc.

Alright, sorry, but does anyone else have one of these days? Am I spoiled b/c my kids are not normally like this so I can't handle it when they are? I was so annoyed and stressed by dinnertime. I guess it doesn't help that Jared has been gone all week and that we have some major stuff happening. Oh, and I bumped into the back of another car on the way back from the beach. I got the kids ice cream on the way home, and turned around at the red light to get something from Ashley, who was a drippy mess, and my foot came off the brake! Can it get worse? At least the people were really nice and there didn't seem to be any damage. They did take my information and it turns out they live on my street. What are the chances?! I just felt like I was falling apart by the time I got home.

I just wanted to curl up and check out. Just turn it all off and escape. I went to bed before 8:00. I never do that. I put the kids in bed and walked right back and collapsed into my bed. I slept for a few hours but around 11:00 I got up because I was so restless, the pain in my 'tension shoulder' was overwhelming, and the Fairy song from Olivia's DVD is driving me insane in my membrane. Tell me it gets better! Very soon!! I have just taken a Unisom and I am listening to John Mayer, Bob Evans, and Colin Hay so I hope that The Fairies do not return to my head. Unless they are the Sleep Fairies!

Note: There are no photos attached to this post because A) You don't want to see how bad this day was B) I am trying to put the images out of my mind and C) The only one I thought of posting was a photo of my BF Britney because I really missed her today

I am sooooo sorry! What a "Jonah" day. (At least that is what Anne called her bad day in Anne of Avonlea, for some reason it has always stuck.)
I think that is one of the hardest things about being a mom--you can't control your kids 100% of the time because, sometimes, they have their own ideas about things. Whiney, fighting kids is horrible, especially when you are out and about!
One time I was at Target and Zane decided to run away from me. Harrison and I looked everywhere and could not find him. I finally had to go to customer service to tell them that I had lost my son. She whipped out her walkie-talkie, declared a "code yellow", and they locked down the store. I didn't know if I should be embarrassed or scared! I told myself that I would give myself 15 minutes before I started to really worry. They finally found him hiding behind all the boxes of car seats.
I was so frustrated that day that I just wanted to scream!!!!
Sometimes, it is just better to go to bed and, hopefully, wake up to a much better day. I hope Jared comes home soon!

I hate it when the kids act that way! And I agree, it's always worse when your husband is away. My husband is gone a lot too and when you don't have that other person there - your tag team partner is what I always think of - things seem to fall apart much faster.

Oh when my kids act like that I want to just walk away! But sigh, I have no where to go so I end up yelling way too much and then feeling awful later. I love your reasons for no pictures at the end, too funny. Or not since it was real, you get what I mean right?

Here's hoping for a better tomorrow!

Oh I am just so sorry! Those days are the worst. Don't be to hard on yourself, we have all been there. I saw a woman at the store the other day. She was near tears because her son was throwing a fit. She looked like she was going to cry. I just smiled at her and said that we have all been there. She looked somewhat relieved that she wasn't being judged. I hope you have a good weekend. I'm sure they will be back to your normal sweet kids in no time.

That sounds like a terrible day, beyond frustrating, I'm sorry about that. It's cruel when the kids decide to be on one all on the same day, and even worse if the dad is out of town!

One question: Why did they still get ice cream if they were being so bad? I would have brought down the smack and definitely withheld the treats.

I am so sorry you had such a bad day. I hate days like that and am sure I would have done the exact same thing...to bed as soon as possible.

I am hoping that a lot of the stress has left you now that you've made a decision about what to do. I hope you do come back, though understand if that's not in the cards. We miss you guys and I was just having dreams about having a cousin sleep over when the little ones are older. Ashley, Olivia, my girls and whitney.

Yikes. Those are the days when I don't want to be the mother anymore. Just want to run away to a hotel for a night or two! And I have been known to crash super early and then wake up at 10 or 11, unable to sleep. Thank goodness we get to start over each morning!

Gosh, what a crappy day. I hurt just reading it. Sure glad there wasn't any damage on the cars. Ya, I'm with Jill, no treats at all when they behave like that, then they'll know you mean it next time. I even witheld Smarties from two kids in my Primary class Sunday who were totally terrible in the chapel while practicing for the Sacrament Presentation. They couldn't believe I'd do that but the other kids felt good about it.
