Five Love Languages

After reading Jill's comment I became interested to know what my Love Language is. So I visited the
WEBSITE to find out. If you aren't familiar with the book, these are the different 'languages' we speak in relationships, according to Dr. Chapman:

1. Words of Affirmation- Verbal appreciation speaks powerfully to these people
2. Quality Time- It’s about focusing all your energy on your mate
3. Receiving Gifts- visual symbols of love
4. Acts of Service- doing humble chores can be a very powerful expression of love and devotion to your mate.
5. Physical Touch- physical touch can make or break the relationship

To my husband's disappointment, my language is not physical touch! Ha ha. Anyway, I took the
QUIZ and I think my language is Acts of Service. I am not sure why, but I think it has something to do with the fact that it takes sacrifice and to me that truly shows that you care about someone. Sometimes you will do things that aren't fun, like clean up the dishes or babysit the kids, etc. Words of affirmation can be hollow or insincere. Gifts, well anyone can buy gifts, right? Does that mean they care about you? Not necessarily. I thought at first that quality time might be my language since I love talking on the phone to friends and family, love going out to lunch with people or having them to dinner, going to movies, or whatever... but when I read the examples, Acts of Service seemed right.

Have you read this book? What is your love language and why? Do you think it's important to find out what your friends' or spouse's love language is? Do you find it hard to speak someone else's love language?

I'm glad you looked into this, I didn't think Quality Time was your love language because most of the people I know who have that love language want to spend time with people no matter what they're doing. I don't relate to that at all and it didn't sound like you.

Acts of Service makes more sense. My love languages are gifts and acts of service. Don't discount gifts as a love language by saying anyone can give a gift right? To me it's more about thoughtfulness, so if someone is out and about and saw something that reminded them of me and then got it for me, of course that would make me feel more loved. I also feel like that about Acts of Service though, so when someone takes care of the kids, helps around the house, or does something so that I don't have to that speaks volumes to me.

Andy and I read this book and we just loved it. I am quality time and Andy is bilingual: physical touch (big surprise, j/k) and words of affirmation.
We have always had a good relationship, but after reading the book and knowing what each other's love language is, it has been so nice to be able to "speak" to each other. I always figured he was physical touch, but learning that he was words of affirmation has helped a lot. He just needs me to tell him "good job", "I love you", more often. It has really helped us to understand each other better, too.

I am so surprised after living with Jill this is the first time you took the test. I think I should take the quiz, even though I'm sure I'm quality time. I told Adam the other day I was going to try out Acts of Service just to see if I wanted to switch. Hehe.

Funny, I was telling my friend about this book to ask her what her love language is? She said she doesn't have one!Serious. Her hubs does all of the above for her -he is like a 'girl' in that regard -he is always helping her, giving her trips, buying jewelry, dates, planning knock out b-day parties for her, surprises, massages, you name it -service, gifts, touch, etc. and she says she doesn't care about it! HA
She cracks me up! It's a great book - I read it so long ago.-ciao
