I love the polka dots, ginghams, and the yellow fabric that dominates and makes up the border. I finished the quilt top last summer- about July, I think. It sat around until December, when I took it to my mom's neighbor, Wendy Nabhan, who did a fantastic job on the stippling. It's just a simple loop over the main body of the quilt, but on the border there is a flower pattern if you look closely.
So when I arrived here in Australia, the quilt was put together and only lacked the binding. I had only done a crib quilt and a lap quilt before, so I was intimidated by the thought of doing binding for a twin sized quilt. Luckily, Jared's mom is a professional quilter (not really, but she could be). Diane is amazing. It's funny that I like to quilt b/c she has four daughters and none of them quilt. She has probably made more quilts than she can count in her lifetime, so I utilized her expertise.
On Friday, I went over and hoped to at least get the binding cut and sewn together. She was so quick. She helped me to measure and figure out the binding. Before I knew it, we had it sewn together and she was stitching it on! I stopped to give the baby a bottle and she was almost done. I was overjoyed to bring it home completed. I just love the gingham done on the bias. I think it's perfect. I can't stop looking at it.
If only I could put it on Olivia's bed now... She and Austin have matching duvets from IKEA so I can hardly use this for her and leave his on the top bunk. My mind craves order, I can't do it. I guess I will have to wait until she has her own room or until I can make a matching one for Ashley and they use the bunk beds. On this timeline, that wouldn't be a stretch... Ashley could feasibly be in a bed in another year and a few months! In the meantime, it's keeping me warm. I hope that one day she loves it as much as I do. I like the idea of creating an heirloom for her to keep forever.

Gorgeous job!!! I also have a mother in law who makes amazing quilts. Each one is so perfect for my kids. She is paid to make them for others. She adds the most amazing details. I just wish that I enjoyed it. What an awesome gift. Hey you might just have to start that other quilt now, than it will be ready for when she moves in. Awesome talent, love it
i loved that fabric when you bought it way back when and it looks so great now that it's finished. It's too bad you can't use it now, but you will soon enough.

Beautiful fabrics. I love those colors together. Neat that you quilt. My mom is really into it, and she actually sends her quilts to your mom's neighbor for the stipling!

The quilt looks amazing. Mom and I were looking at your blog while I was at her house yesterday and I said, "I'm so glad she has Diane." It's wonderful that she's such a good mother and grandmother, and so great that she's willing and able to help you on projects like this. It's beautiful.
