The kids wait for Nana to arrive- Ashley is past her 5 minute limit!
First of all, MOM ARRIVED! I was so happy when she walked through that gate at the airport. We waited about an hour for her to come through and I start to get so nervous when I don't see her. We went home and she was making cookies with the kids in no time. They love their Nana so much. She brought all kinds of Halloween sprinkles and googly eyes and things for them.
The next most 'exciting' thing that happened this week is Ashley has chicken pox! Seriously, is my life Murphy's Law in action?! I couldn't believe it. It was Monday night when I noticed one near her nose that looked like a zit. Sure enough, by bath time there were 3 on her back and 2 on her neck. oh no! It's been going around but I never thought we'd get it. Austin coincidentally had the shot on the same day! Olivia hasn't had it yet. I guess we'll do the lab test as to whether or not the immunization is effective. Luckily she is SUCH a good girl she hasn't been whiny or grouchy at all. Eating like a horse and playing and singing as usual. Love her!
The movers came on Wednesday. It was a long day of packing but they finally finished and the house was near empty other than about 6 suitcases and some odds and ends. We quickly got dinner at 4:30 then kids and I left for Movie world at 5:15pm.
We were all going to go but when Ashley got the pox we were in a fix as to who would bbsit her! A friend whose daughter developed spots on the same day as Ashley offered and we almost took her up on it, but then Mom said she'd stay and I think she was happy b/c she was still jet-lagged and tired to walk around a theme park all night.
The kids had a great time and their costumes were cute. Austin was a vampire- love the makeup. Mom did a great job. Olivia was... hmmm, a hippie princess? I have no idea but she put it together, we painted her face and she was happy. We were at Movie World all night til 9pm and the kids didn't complain or whine once. We had a great time and Austin went on his first roller coaster! It was so cute. I said do you want to hold my hand and he said "No" but as soon as we started up the first hill (pretty steep) he said, "OK!" and grabbed my hand. He was scared to death but when we got off he was proud of himself and I explained that it's a "good scary" kind of ride.
Olivia was brave enough to go on a ride by herself. They both had a lot of fun.
We came home and dropped into bed. Mom and I were up talking til late. We've had some long ones- she's jet lagged and I am easily distracted, hate going to bed, and happy to talk to her... so it's a dangerous mix.
Today has been Cleaning day. Susan and Mum arrived about 9am and Debbie came later to help. We did bathrooms, wiped out drawers and cupboards, windows, mirrors, etc. It is so much work to clean a house! About 1pm we stopped and ate some sandwiches. I couldn't wait to get out of the house. It seemed like we'd been trapped for almost 3 days now (just circumstances of packing) but I was losing it.

We finally escaped about 1:30 or so and went to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. We all had a photo with a koala (got no scanner so I can't post), fed kangas, saw the crocs, saw a snake and a large iguana in the wild along the paths (Eeeek!) saw wombats, dingoes, and everything else. By the time we left at 4:30 we were both ready to drop.

When we got home I thought, "I don't even know how I am functioning". Meals are a blur. "Did we eat lunch?" I was thinking. Anyway, we had planned for Mum and Dad to bbsit so we pressed on and went out to dinner. Jared was home by now and Mom and I were ready for a real meal! We've been eating sandwiches and little things at the house and take out a few times. Yuck. We went to a place called Mike's Steak House and it was so good. I had to stop the waitress while we were waiting for food and ask for garlic bread b/c I seriously thought I was going to pass out from exhaustion and lack of food. Not to be dramatic, but we've been working non-stop and I haven't been sleeping enough and I was feeling hot/cold chills (it was freezing from A/C in there, but...) and a little faint. Thankfully we got the bread and wolfed it down. Our meals were good too. Jared got his favorite, BOEREWORS sausage on a platter with fries, salad, eggs, and steak. I shared the steak and had a great Caesar salad and Mom had Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli. We all loved it and agreed it was a great pick. It felt good to have a good meal. I had to stop and get diapers after that and we got some Cadbury's chocolate at the store for the ride home. I am going to have to stock up on that. Will miss it. I have already started buying some Tim Tams.
So tomorrow we aren't sure what we're doing. The sale of our car fell through- I am so annoyed. She led us on for five days saying she was getting the funds and the papers, etc and yesterday she backed out (she is older) saying it was "too complicated" and how will she sell her car, etc. I am thinking, "UH, didn't you think of that before now?" So we're back to selling. At least Jared will be here for a while so he can do that. He also got his packed of papers for his visa so we can start that process too. I am starting to wonder whether or not he's going to make it back to the US!!! Ha ha. Don't worry, Jared. We'll write!
Tomorrow night we'll have a BBQ with family and sleep over at Katherine's place. They will leave the next day for Hawaii and we can relax and enjoy the beach and a stress free zone! I can't wait to lay on their full-body massage chair. It's amazing. Right now I need a 2 hour massage so badly!
I know this is long but it's like 5 journal entries from this week. I am trying to enjoy the last days here among all this but it's been hard b/c my phone has been ringing NON stop and the day Mom arrived there were people in and out all day too. I think once we leave the house I will be able to Switch OFF and relax. Yay!

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose life is "Murphy's Law in action." Sorry about the chicken pox--hopefully it will stay mild. I don't know how you are still standing after everthing that's been going on--amazing. Must be all that exercising and eating right :)
Rob, thanks for sitting up for 2 hours last night logging all this information on here. Now I can just copy and paste and send to my friends! Voila! Im so glad to be here and help get you out of the house and home again!

I hope your last few days are fun. It sounds like the hardest part is behind you. Except for the flight. But is sounds like your Mom is a big help.
I think it is awesome that your mom is there to help with everything, especially with Ashley getting the chicken pox! I know this may sound weird, but I'm glad that Ashley got the chicken pox (even though the timing was bad.) I just don't trust that chicken pox vaccine since Harrison got shingles a couple months ago.
I hope you are relaxing, now, next to the beach in that fabulous massage chair. You deserve a break. :D
I can't even imagine what you have been doing the last few days. It must be so crazy. I'm so glad you're mom came to help you and that despite all that has to be done you're still having fun doing some things. Ashely looks so big and foreign to me. It will be so nice getting to know that little girl.
Thank goodness you mom is there to help ease the stress! And chicken pox on top of everything else already going on? That is just too much.
