On Monday when we got home (to an empty house), Jared had left some notes for us and my Anniversary gift hanging on the wall. He had told me beforehand that it "wasn't finished yet" and I wasn't sure what that meant. I was trying to think of what he might give me that could be left unfinished- like was he building something? or had he bought something that wasn't put together yet (possible IKEA purchase?) or what? Well it was canvas prints of the kids for me. They are quite big- probably about 16-18 inches square. His friend who is a photographer told him where to have them printed, but he wasn't able to get the right size of canvas to mount them in time. He also did one of Ashley alone, that he was able to mount and finish, which I think we'll put in her room.
I was so impressed at the creativity involved and the unique nature of the gift. Very nice. Jared will finally be back tomorrow evening (sat nite). The kids are so excited to see him and Olivia keeps asking, "Mom, when is Daddy coming?" Poor thing. She is probably so confused what with leaving him for 3 weeks then coming back to an empty house since he's been gone another week. Thank goodness he will not travel for a few months and we'll have a nice Christmas holiday together. One good thing about Australia is FOUR WEEKS OF PAID VACATION. Oh yeah. So tomorrow night we will finally get to put up a tree since we've been waiting for him. I have hung up a few decorations around the house but it's not quite complete without the tree. We are listening to lots of Christmas music and we just might make a batch of cookies this weekend. I pretty much did all of my shopping in America, so there is little preparation left to do. Just enjoy the next few weeks until Christmas. Can it really be just 2 1/2 weeks away? Crazy.

I would absolutely love this. I have been toying around with getting some of my photos printed on canvas, but need to convince Adam to move the huge mirror so I can install my photo shelves first.
I'm so glad the two of you will finally be together. I bet your kids are dying to see him as well.

ohhh robyn that last picture is SOOOOOOOOO amazing! what a thoughtful gift...what a nice surprise to come to...especially since you guys have been appart for so long and your anniversary...wow.that is cool. I love the picture of the three of them too! how sweet! I was thinking of your babies the other day...I took a few pictures of olivia and alexei...would have been nice to see you, but we had to run! they are soo sweet though! Yea I can't believe it is appraoching soo soon! Have fun decorating and the cookies sound really good!...I just bought myself a huge pumpkin pie from costco..I figured since I didn't get any for thanksgiving and we are leaving out of the country for christmas, I should buy one now and eat it...(i have 6 days...) so it has been sooooo GOOD!
What a cool gift! That picture of Ashley is fantastic! It hurts to look at it it's so cute. I hope you guys have a good reunion, isn't it nice to actually miss him? Ha.
What a great idea. Thoughtful gifts are definitely the best, but not always easy to come up with! I agree with Jill, the last picture of Ashley almost hurts me to look at -- fabulous.
I can only imagine how crazy my kids would be getting if they didn't see their dad for a month. And I can't imagine at all how it would be to be ready for Christmas and just hanging around enjoying December! Excellent.
Love the photos of the kids and the idea of having them printed on canvas. I would love to see them in person. Tell Jared that I'm impressed with his creativity and thoughtfulness, and also, welcome home.
