I went to JoAnn's earlier that evening to pick out some fabric. Normally, I would avoid this place at all costs when it comes to fabric b/c I always find a pathetic array of choices. However, since I had told myself not to go crazy about the fabric since it's just a fun banner for the kids, I was able to relax a little and just find fun, colorful fabrics. Ok, ok, I admit I did stop around the corner at Fabric Mill and picked up two A.Butler fabrics to spice it up a little. I couldn't help it.
Here is one of the TWO photos I took all night (I don't know what was wrong with me!) Actually, Britney took it about midnight as I looked over my finished pennets and tried to suppress the urge to arrange them in a nice color scheme. I kept telling myself to keep it random and not be a control-freak, but alas, I can't deny who I am, can I?
Here are some of the finished pennets. We ended up doing about 28-30 finished pennets to fill the length of two packages of quilt binding (18 feet). I don't know what Michelle's finished length was, but I wanted mine long enough to go across a room, or to be draped like crepe paper. It could also be hung in a doorway or other opening to a room with some hanging down on the sides. Shauna finished her birthday banner before we went home (about 1 am) but I still need to sew mine to the binding. Hopefully once Shauna posts pictures on her blog I can steal some since I was so slack taking photos on my camera. I think I was falsely confident that I had taken sufficient photos b/c I used Shauna's camera a number of times, leaving mine neglected in the case. Oh well!

Your banner will look so cute -- your fabric was great and the colors are festive and happy. It was a fun night, one we will have to repeat soon. It's nice to get together with friends and sew. Well and eat good food...I had far too many of Britney's bacon wraps!
Oh, do post the finished pic one day! That sounds like a fun evening with friends. I wish I knew how to sew. . .
I think this is an awesome idea and can't wait to see what it looks like when you're finished.
I'm sorry that your mom's generosity falls into your lap as well. I hope the girls are behaving themselves and getting along. At least you had a good Friday night creating with friends.
Your bday banner is going to be so cute! Please post a final pic. It sounds like it was a fun night: all girls, food, and no kids! Just what every mom needs every now and then. :D

Ooh, I'm so glad you made a birthday banner! Mine was just like yours -- two packages of quilt binding -- I think it's perfect because it allows for plenty of drape and/or some overhang on the walls, etc. Looks like you had a great night.

That really was so much fun! I agree with Heidi -- we should do it again soon. I should have taken a few more pictures for you. I didn't realize you hadn't taken any others on your camera. At least you still looked beautiful into the wee hours of the night! :)
Food, friends, and fabric...ahhh!!! Life couldn't be much better! :)
I enjoy all creativity, and especially with friends. I think it's cool that you took this idea and ran with it.
