Moving

Most people who know me well know that I HATE moving. Somehow, I can't stop doing it. It's just ridiculous. I can't even count how many times I have moved in my life. Since I got married in 1999, I have moved 8 times. That is just wrong.

This past weekend we moved, after just 8 months at our previous address here in Australia. I am happy about this move, actually, because the house is nicer, there's a better yard, we got away from our strange landlord, etc. I just wish I could have some stability in my life. It seems that is all I want, yet I never get it.

I really loved our neighborhood/ward in Provo. I didn't think I was going to like it but I ended up feeling so comfortable there. People were really friendly. My kids had lots of friends to play with too. And of course, I met my good friend Britney there. How could I not love it? I was okay with the move when we left Provo and came here. We talked a lot about the decision and I agreed that it was a good time and that it would be a fun experience for our family. I just hope that at some point, we do find that stability, that place that we can call home. I know that people say you can make 'home' wherever you are and that is true, to an extent, but I guess I find such comfort in familiarity. I crave it. I want it for my kids.

So we've been in this house since Saturday. We did it all in one day- it's just four houses up the street! We packed the cars load after load after load... until it was done. It's been pretty painless since we didn't actually pack anything, we just used laundry baskets and open crates and boxes to haul stuff up to the new place. Then, we emptied them and did it over again.

I think I am really going to like it here. This house seems a lot more like someplace we can stay long term. We seemed to just settle right in so quickly. I hope that is a good sign. We'll be having our party in just two weeks then a week later I leave for America. It's coming so fast!

I will post photos later, this is Jared's computer (using the wireless modem since we don't have our internet set up here yet). How do you feel about moving? Anyone else have issues like me? Do you crave stability? Am I boring?

I didn't mind moving before I had kids. It was like a mini adventure. Now that we have kids, it just means more items to pack...more toys to pack. As your family grows, your stuff multiplies, and it just turns into an even bigger pain!
I'm glad that your move was relatively easy. Just being able to throw stuff into laundry baskets, etc, made it easier, I'm sure.
Can't wait to see pictures of the new place!

I've been wondering where you were. That's crazy that you've moved so much. We've only moved 3 times in 13 years! (I'm making up for our transient-like childhood I guess.)

I'm glad you're already like this house better. Please document the whole thing inside and out, I never did ever really get a good idea of what your other place was like.

I guess I have to chime in. I also despise moving, yet there is always a strange excitement to it and then a freshness to the whole thing getting settled because everything is totally clean all at once. But moving is upsetting to me b/c there is no familiarity at all with the new place, the new ward, the new street and the new neighbors. Somehow, mostly because of the church, we are always able to jump in with both feet and bloom where we are planted. My wish for all my children is to be able to find that one place and stay there for a good long time!

Sounds like it was a big score to have gotten that place. I have not moved a whole lot in my life -- not nearly as much as a lot of people do. I find my problem is that my friends move a lot. I hate having ward members move away all the time - we have a lot of apts in our ward, and hence all the moving.

I totally have issues about moving and stability. The house Marc and I are living in now is a lifetime record for me -- 8 years! Pretty sad, huh? I've said it before, but my vision of hell is perpetual moving. At least you didn't have to pack everything. I did one move like that (when I was pregnant with Max) and it wasn't AS bad.

Show us photos when you are all moved in.

I'm assuming your not online yet. I miss not hearing what's going on. I'm really looking forward to your visit.

moving...I think I like the idea if it is for a nicer and biger house!
We've moved somewhat when I was growing up and the last move as a family was a defining part in my life because it was going to be either the US or Paris France and it was the US...I wonder what turns my life would have taken if we had gone to Europe....
